Just like Haze of memory I, this painting captures the fleeting and intimate act of tracing a simple home on a fogged-up window. The work symbolizes the human longing for stability and shelter against the forces of nature and time, which are often beyond our control. The black strips symbolize barriers or interruptions. The sharp, angular placement contrasts with the soft, natural shapes and colors, representing the intrusion of artificial elements into natural and personal spaces. Depending on the viewers perspective and lighting, the strips reflect parts of the environment, introducing new visual elements into the painting.
The house, a universal symbol of safety and comfort, is drawn with a childlike innocence, reminiscent of the first place we learn to draw. It’s a sanctuary, a private space, isolated and highlighted against the green and blue outside world and the frozen white drops. The vertical streaks, reminiscent of rain shows the cleansing or tears, reinforcing the emotional weight of the piece.
The sun, a symbol of hope and renewal, struggles against the mist that obscures it, its rays fighting through the haze. This suggest an optimism that perseveres, the light that exists even when veiled by the ‘fog’ of life’s challenges.
In sharing this work, I am sharing a part of myself, an intimate glimpse into the spaces I hold dear. It is a visual metaphor for the resilience of hope and the embrace of the home within, as we navigate through the mists of life.
With tape, we fix ourselves and keep drawing on fogged-up windows to see what’s behind.
