Non-statements
Non-statements
Most of the time my drawings and marks tend to go towards the subtle side, creating rip-like lines in the white space of the paper. Spontaneous balance and composition is created through trail and error. The paper’s ease of use allows me to create a lot of drawings as experiments, and select those that “work”. It is a way to refine and develop my mark-making.
In the series “Non-statements”, I set out with the idea to make a bigger “statement” with my mark than I usually do. Instead of small, whispering conversations, the scribbles scream out from the pages to be heard. While staying inside my usual investigation of the emptiness versus man-made marks, they show greater impact in the space of the paper.
