'Folds and Wrinkles' is de titel van een nieuwe creatie waarin Rebecca Lenaerts aan de slag gaat met linnen, textiel en katoenen lakens afkomstig van haar grootouders. Met dit materiaal vol van verhaal transformeert ze haar lichaam tot sculptuur. Het textiel beeldhouwt het lichaam. De plooien leiden een eigen leven. Bewegen in verstilde tijd. De gelaagdheid van deze bewegende verstilling resoneert door het materiaal heen. De toeschouwer is getuige van hoe de lagen langzaam afpellen.
Ouderen en voorouders zijn de oudste bewoners op aarde. Net als steen en rots bewaren ze 'de diepe kennis' van de aarde in zich. In de rimpels van ouderen zit tijd gekerfd. In de transparantie van hun huid wordt de gelaagdheid van een lichaam zichtbaar. De kwetsbaarheid van een ouder lichaam staat tegenover de innerlijke sterkte die voortkomt uit stille wijsheid en weten. Bewegen op de frictie tussen hardheid en breekbaarheid, tussen innerlijke sterkte en uiterlijk kwetsbaarheid, en bewogen worden door stilte en tijdloosheid, is waar deze performance over gaat.

'Folds and Wrinkles' is the title of a new creation in which Rebecca Lenaerts works with linen, textiles and cotton bedsheets from her grandparents. With this material full of story she transforms her body into sculpture. The textile sculpts the body. The folds have a life of their own. Moving in still time. The layering of this moving stillness or silent movement resonates through the material. The viewer witnesses how the layers slowly peel off.

Elders and ancestors are the oldest inhabitants on earth. Line stone and rock they carry 'deep knowledge' of the earth in them. Time is carved into the wrinkles of the elderly. The stratification of a body becomes visible in the transparency of the skin. The fragility of an older body is opposed to the inner strength that comes from silent wisdom and knowing. Moving on the friction between hardness and fragility, between inner strength and outer vulnerability, and being moved by silence and timelessness, is what this research is about.
