Love @ Space @ War

An Iraqi solger sent a love letter to his girlfriend while he was on the front lines during the Iran-Iraq war in 1989, where his life changed forever. Despite his bravery, the war cost him dearly. In that bloody conflict, he lost both of his hands, leaving him broken and in pain. However, the spark of love lit up his darkness once more. He lay in a hospital, trying to convey his feelings to his girlfriend despite his handicap.

This artwork consists of three distinct pieces. The first is a painted and printed sheet measuring 180 x 180 cm in earthy tones, adorned with love messages and photos of cherished memories. The second piece, which measures 200 x 200 cm, presents an expressive contrast: a canvas of the battlefield, embellished with expressions of love and conflict in Islamic ornamentation and calligraphy, accentuated by the imprints of war-worn shoes.

In the third piece, the war robe takes center stage and sits in the middle of the two curtains, binding them with thread or a strand of his lover's hair, created using five hand-printing techniques. These techniques bear touching love messages and vivid snapshots of cherished memories etched in the heart. Weaving a robe now imbued with the sweat of battle and the dust of the earth, this multifaceted artwork is a contemporary exploration of emotion, weaving together themes of love, sacrifice, and the profound impact of conflict on the human spirit.
